News Release - March 23, 2006 NEW PROJECT HOPE YOUTH TREATMENT SPACES OPENING IN PRINCE ALBERT
Saskatchewan youth will have access to more treatment options for substance abuse and addictions as six interim youth treatment beds are opened in Prince Albert in April 2006. The new treatment beds are housed in a fourplex called the Pineview Youth Centre. These spaces will complement the six youth stabilization spaces recently opened in Saskatoon.
"The government recognizes the need for more services and is moving quickly on this initiative," Healthy Living Services Minister Graham Addley said. "It is imperative that Saskatchewan young people have a safe place to go for treatment of substance abuse when they need it, allowing them to heal in body, mind and spirit." The six youth treatment beds are part of Project Hope, a three-year plan using a comprehensive, integrated approach to the prevention and treatment of substance abuse. Discussions continue with the Prince Albert Grand Council regarding the development of a permanent 15-bed treatment facility. "There is a high need for treatment services in this community, and we are pleased we can offer something to those people and their families as soon as possible," Prince Albert Parkland Health Region CEO Cecile Hunt said. "We appreciate the provincial government's support and believe this interim centre will provide a successful bridge to a permanent facility in the next year." -30- For More Information, Contact:
