SPEED LIMIT INCREASES THIS WEEKEND

The speed limit on most four-lane sections of Highways 1, 11 and 16 increases to 110 km/h on Sunday.

"The new speed limit will make travelling on our major highways more convenient for motorists," Highways and Transportation Minister Mark Wartman said. "At the same, we are taking steps to ensure a high standard of safety."

While the new speed limit generally applies to twinned sections of the three major highways, current speed limits remain in effect at certain locations. Two-lane sections of these highways, major intersections such as the intersection of Highway 11 and Grasswood road south of Saskatoon, and stretches of highways through cities, towns and villages will retain lower speed limits.

"I encourage motorists to observe posted speed limits in these areas, and respect large trucks, recreational vehicles and other motorists driving at speeds slower than 110 km/h," Wartman said. "Drivers should also be aware of the increased speed limit and exercise appropriate caution as they turn onto these highways from connecting roads and approaches."

Wartman also noted that, regardless of the posted speed limit, motorists should drive at a speed appropriate for weather and road conditions.

"The increase to 110 km/h is just one small benefit from the record investments our government has made in Saskatchewan's highways and roads over the last several years," Wartman said. "Our commitment to a modern and competitive infrastructure is promoting economic prosperity, strong communities and a wide open future for all."
