NEW FARM SAFETY GUIDE RELEASED

Saskatchewan Occupational Health and Safety has produced an updated version of its Farm Safety Guide. The publication provides detailed checklists for farmers and their employees on how best to create and maintain a safe and healthy workplace.

The publication presents information on how Occupational Health and Safety legislation applies to farms and ranches and is regarded as a great tool for farmers on how to keep everyone on the farm safe.

Farm fatalities account for one-third of all worker fatalities in the province. Approximately 75 per cent of farm-related deaths and 50 per cent of farm-related injuries are caused by machinery.

The guide provides a wider description of safety elements in a health and safety plan as well as more up-to-date examples of farm-related hazards.

The publication will be available at major agricultural events and also online at http://www.lrws.gov.sk.ca/farm-safety-program/.

Occupational Health and Safety publishes many agriculture safety-related resources including the following:

  • Overhead Powerlines in Farm Yards;
  • Preventing Falls from Grain Bins;
  • Agricultural Workers Suffocate in Grain;
  • Confined Space on Farms; and
  • Anhydrous Ammonia Hazard Information for Farmers.
