SaskTel today announced the improvement of digital cellular service in Duck Lake, Hepburn, Melville, Strongfield, Waldheim, Yellow Grass and their surrounding areas, as well as the availability of digital cellular service in the previously unserved area of Dorintosh.
"SaskTel remains committed to expanding and improving the quality of digital cellular service in this province," Minister Responsible for SaskTel Deb Higgins said. "These latest initiatives are part of the ongoing $28 million expansion, which brings SaskTel's total investment in digital cellular service since 1998 to $120 million." "SaskTel understands that reliable coverage is critical for many of our customers and digital service with 1X functionality improves call clarity, enhances privacy and provides wireless customers with access to e-mail, corporate databases and the Internet," SaskTel President and CEO Robert Watson said. "We will continue to evaluate the network to provide our cellular customers with the latest wireless technologies over the largest wireless network in the province." Residents in the Duck Lake area will experience improved coverage in town and along Highway 11. The improvements at Waldheim and Hepburn will result in improved coverage in town and along Highway 312 from Waldheim to Rosthern. Melville residents will experience improved coverage within the city and in the surrounding area. Coverage will be improved within the town of Strongfield, along Highway 19 and on local grid roads. Yellow Grass residents can expect better coverage in town and along Highway 39 between Weyburn and Milestone. SaskTel has the most extensive cellular network in Saskatchewan. Digital and 1X cellular service provides advanced functionality that allows customers to send and receive text messages and photos, browse the Internet, download video clips, perform banking transactions and access real-time information such as news, weather and stock quotes. Additionally, customers will have access to new services such as Push-to-Talk, which allows customers to use their cellular phone much like a walkie-talkie.
