SASKATCHEWAN WOMAN NAMED ONE OF CANADA'S TOP 100 POWERFUL WOMEN

A Saskatchewan woman is being recognized as one of Canada's top 100 powerful women for the second year in a row.

Judy Samuelson, Cabinet Secretary and Clerk of the Executive Council for the Government of Saskatchewan, will be honoured with the award at a Summit and Awards Luncheon in Toronto on November 10th.

The award was developed in 2003 under the leadership of the Women's Executive Network (WXN), Canada's leading association of women executives, and the Richard Ivey School of Business, at the University of Western Ontario, a global leader in business management education. An independent advisory board selects the winners based on defined, measurable criteria.

Samuelson is being honoured in the category of Public Sector Leaders, women who occupy the most senior position in a government department, ministry or university, municipality, hospital or regional health authority. The other award categories include Entrepreneurs, Trailblazers, Corporate Executives, Champions, Professionals and one Lifetime Achiever.

"I'm pleased that Judy's dedication and life of service as a public administrator is being recognized with this prestigious award," Premier Lorne Calvert said. "Judy can be proud of her more than 30 years of leadership and commitment to government, serving as an advisor to politicians and public servants, and as a mentor to young people and others looking to take on new roles within the public service. She is richly deserving of this award."

Having served as Assistant Chief of Staff and then Chief of Staff to former Premier Roy Romanow from 1993 – 2001, and as Cabinet Secretary since 2001, Samuelson is now the longest serving official in the Cabinet Room in the history of the province. She was named one of the Top 10 Women of Influence in 2003 by the Saskatchewan business magazine SASKBUSINESS.

Other notable women on the list of Canada's top 100 powerful women include Chief Justice of Canada Beverley McLachlin, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour, Auditor General of Canada Sheila Fraser, British Columbia Senator Mobina Jaffer, BMO Chief Economist Sherry Cooper; British Columbia Lieutenant Governor Iona Campagnolo, Vancouver City Manager Margaret Judy Rogers, York University President and Vice-Chancellor Lorna Marsden and University of Manitoba President and Vice-Chancellor Emoke J. E. Szathmary.
