GOVERNMENT PARTNERS WITH UNIVERSITIES TO SEND STUDENTS TO CAPITOL HILL

The Ministry of Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration has partnered with the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Regina in an agreement with the prestigious Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars in Washington, DC. The Government of Saskatchewan will provide five students from each university in the province with a $5,500 scholarship to enroll in the program.

The Washington Center is the largest independent non-profit academic internship program in the United States and is located in one of the global epicenters of politics, business and international diplomacy. The center offers intern placement with partners throughout the capitol including government agencies, multi-national businesses and non-governmental organizations. Interns will be immersed in learning opportunities that include exposure to diverse fields of study.

"Students of today are the leaders and policymakers of tomorrow," Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration Minister Rob Norris said. "We are delighted to facilitate our students participation in this invaluable leadership development opportunity. Not only will the Washington Center internship enrich the lives of the students participating, but will benefit all people in Saskatchewan."

Recipients of the Government of Saskatchewan scholarships will receive 15 credit hours toward completion of their academic program at the University of Saskatchewan or the University of Regina.

Internships offered by the Washington Center integrate academic learning and hands-on work experience, while giving students the opportunity to interact with newsmakers and leaders from around the world. Each experience is designed to complement the individual's interests and academic coursework.
