PROVINCE RELEASES REPORT FROM PROVINCIAL PANEL ON STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT

The Government of Saskatchewan has released the final report from the Provincial Panel on Student Achievement. The panel, which included teachers, school division administrators, First Nations and Métis authorities, school board members, educational leaders and academics, was asked to provide recommendations on improving student achievement in Saskatchewan.

"Improving student achievement is something the education sector has been working on together and I would like to thank the panel members for their work," Education Minister Donna Harpauer said. "We have been looking at ways that we can continue to improve education outcomes for students here in Saskatchewan."

The panel's recommendations include enhancements to:

  • advance First Nations and Métis education,
  • engage communities in schools,
  • strengthen early learning and child care,
  • enhance curriculum, instruction and assessment,
  • improve equitable opportunities for students, and
  • encourage continuous learning and improvement.

The minister will provide a response to the recommendations in early 2011.

The full report is available for download on the Ministry of Education's website at http://www.education.gov.sk.ca/provpanel-student-achieve-report2010 along with an executive summary at http://www.education.gov.sk.ca/provpanel-student-achieve-summary2010.
