SASKGAMING CELEBRATES RESPONSIBLE GAMING AWARENESS WEEK

Today marks the official start of SaskGaming's Responsible Gaming Awareness Week at Casinos Regina and Moose Jaw.

"SaskGaming is committed to the health and well-being of our guests, and to providing them with the information they need to make responsible decisions when they choose to visit our casinos," Minister responsible for Saskatchewan Gaming Corporation Ken Cheveldayoff said. "I encourage everyone to join us for Responsible Gaming Awareness Week to learn more about the services that we and our partner agencies offer."

Responsible Gaming Awareness Week runs from May 9 to 13 at Casinos Regina and Moose Jaw. A number of interactive education sessions will be held where guests can learn about how games and payouts work, get tips on budgeting their time and money and find out where to get help if there is a problem.

Twyla Meredith, President and CEO of SaskGaming, also announced a major enhancement to SaskGaming's responsible gaming program.

Casino Regina will begin using license plate recognition technology at its parking facilities this June. This new technology will automatically notify security staff should an excluded individual park on the casino's property, further strengthening their ability to detect and deter patrons who have enrolled in SaskGaming's self exclusion program.

"Self exclusion is an option that we offer patrons to support their personal commitment to change their gambling behavior," Meredith said. "License plate recognition technology is another tool that will help us detect and deter excluded patrons who may be tempted to re-enter our casinos."

SaskGaming's responsible gaming program also includes mandatory responsible gaming training for all employees, Responsible Gaming Information Centres (RGICs) on the gaming floor at Casinos Regina and Moose Jaw, a team of specially-trained Responsible Gaming Specialists at Casinos Regina and Moose Jaw, a variety of educational and awareness materials, and an innovative computer program that assists in identifying patterns of play that may suggest an individual is experiencing difficulty with gambling.
