CHEQUE PRESENTATION TO PRINCE ALBERT GROUP HOMES SOCIETY

Social Services Minister Glenn Hagel announced the province is contributing $30,000 toward construction of a replacement group home for the Prince Albert Group Homes Society. The current facility serves three mentally challenged people who require an assisted living environment.

"The new home will address health and safety concerns related to the current facility and will provide service to better accommodate community needs," Hagel said.

The current group home, "Serenity Home," is too small to accommodate expansion in the face of growing pressure for additional group home spaces.

The new home, now under construction, is larger and purpose designed to allow for an expansion of service and an improved quality of life for the residents. In addition to provincial funding for the new facility, the Society secured support from community organizations.

The Prince Albert Group Homes Society operates six group homes and a 16-space supportive living program, all managed by a volunteer board of directors.
