GOVERNMENT RECEIVES THE SECOND REPORT OF THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON FRANCOPHONE AFFAIRS

Provincial Secretary June Draude received the second report of the Advisory Committee on Francophone Affairs at their quarterly meeting today.

The report focuses on economic development, innovation and the province's francophone community. Five recommendations are made based on consultations with the ministries of Advanced Education, Employment and Labour, Agriculture, Enterprise Saskatchewan and Francophone sector representatives.

"The report clearly shows that the Government of Saskatchewan and the Francophone community have aligned visions for economic development and growth in our province," Draude said. "The committee continues to do diligent work, helping us identify areas where we can advance these sectors. Their recommendations will be shared with these ministries for their consideration as they move forward with relevant projects."

The committee was appointed in January 2009 to advise the Provincial Secretary through the review and analysis of French-language programs and policies and to guide the implementation of Saskatchewan's French-language Services Policy. Providing services in French allows the government to meet the needs of the people of Saskatchewan while attracting French newcomers to our province.

The committee's reports and the Saskatchewan French-language Services Policy are available in English and French at www.ops.gov.sk.ca.
