News Release - June 15, 2009 MAJOR REGINA PROJECTS GET UNDERWAYWork is poised to begin this summer on two major Regina transportation projects. The design of the long-awaited Lewvan Interchange is finalized and the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure is preparing for pre-construction work. Stage 1 of the new West Bypass will also begin this construction season and is expected to be completed this fall. Significant development is either ongoing or planned for south west Regina. The Harbor Landing subdivision is under construction and a new commercial development is also planned for that quadrant of the city. The new interchange will also support the development of the Global Transportation Hub (GTH), west of Regina. Pre-construction work consists of relocating high-capacity utilities within the right-of-way, including natural gas, electrical and telephone lines. The ministry expects utility moves to commence in June and be completed later this summer. The design for the interchange is depicted in the attached backgrounder. In addition to the Lewvan Interchange, work is progressing on other supporting road infrastructure for the GTH. Stage 1 of the West Regina Bypass will commence this construction season.
