TEN SCHOOLPLUS COMMUNITY-TEACHER ENGAGEMENT FUND PROJECTS ANNOUNCED

Ten projects across Saskatchewan will receive $10,000 each from the new SchoolPLUS Community-Teacher Engagement Fund. Funding will be provided to projects based in Nipawin, Tisdale, Assiniboia, Saskatoon, Prince Albert, Hudson Bay, MacDowall, Regina and the Regina area.

"The Community-Teacher Engagement Fund demonstrates the government's ongoing commitment to SchoolPLUS. The funds will be used to promote and support action research projects by communities and schools that will benefit all SchoolPLUS stakeholders in the province," Learning Minister Andrew Thomson said.

The Community-Teacher Engagement Fund provides opportunities at the school and community level for families, teachers, human service providers and communities to work closely together on local initiatives to advance SchoolPLUS. It promotes projects that enhance partnerships and local actions in support of child well-being and learning success, and the implementation of SchoolPLUS.

"These projects will provide valuable information and are excellent examples for other communities as we move toward a future where SchoolPLUS is adopted by all Saskatchewan schools," Thomson said.

SchoolPLUS is a government-wide initiative designed to provide Saskatchewan children and youth with what they need to be successful in school and in life. It focuses on schools as centres of learning and support.

Seven government departments, including Saskatchewan Learning; Health; Justice; Corrections and Public Safety; Community Resources and Employment; Culture, Youth and Recreation and Government Relations and Aboriginal Affairs, contributed funding to provide these grants.
