News Release - June 5, 2012 ALBERTA COMPANY FINED MORE THAN $16,000 FOR NOT USING SAFEGUARDS ON EQUIPMENTIn-Line Contracting Ltd., of Edmonton, Alberta, has pleaded guilty to one count under Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation, related to a failure to ensure that an effective safeguard was in place to prevent contact with the dangerous part of a machine. The company was fined $16,800 in North Battleford Provincial Court. The conviction related to an incident which occurred on August 24, 2009, on Highway 16 near Maymont, Saskatchewan. A worker was fatally injured when he was dislodged from a piece of machinery that rolled onto him while installing culverts. Four other charges against In-Line Contracting Ltd. were stayed. OHS conducts approximately 4,500 worksite inspections annually to ensure standards are known, understood and enforced, and investigates where workers are killed or seriously injured in a work related incident. -30- For more information, contact:
