News Release - March 5, 2012 THE SASKATCHEWAN DREAM VIDEO CONTEST ANNOUNCEDThe Provincial Capital Commission and the Ministry of Education are proud to announce the Saskatchewan Dream Video Contest in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Saskatchewan Legislative Building. "This contest gives Saskatchewan's young artists the opportunity to get real hands-on experience planning, shooting and editing their films, while also celebrating this wonderful province," Minister responsible for the Provincial Capital Commission Bill Hutchinson said. The contest is open to students in Grades nine through 12 who are currently enrolled in a Saskatchewan school or home-based education program. Individuals or teams up to three students can email their written concepts describing a short video based on the Legislative Building in Regina and the provincial theme of Building the Saskatchewan Dream. Submissions must not exceed 400 words and should be tailored for a five minute video. "As Saskatchewan marks this milestone, students will have the opportunity to share their ideas about what this century-old significant building represents to them and the province," Education Minister Donna Harpauer said. All submissions must be received by Friday, March 30, 2012; one winning submission will be selected from each of the northern, central and southern regions of the province. Winners will receive a three day all-expense paid trip to Regina to make their concept a reality. While in Regina each student or group will attend a video production and editing workshop hosted by professional film experts, designed specifically around their concept. Each team will then shoot, edit and produce their video, working with the film industry experts who will mentor them. All films will be made available on You Tube and on a number of provincial websites.
