SASKATCHEWAN ENGINEERING AND GEOSCIENCE WEEK PROCLAIMED FEB. 27TH TO MARCH 5TH

To recognize the work of engineers and geoscientists in Saskatchewan, the week of February 27th to March 5th, 2006 has been proclaimed as "Engineering and Geoscience Week."

The week is designed to honour the more than 5,000 registered professional engineers and geoscientists in Saskatchewan.

"This week helps us recognize the people who have played such an important role in creating and maintaining the infrastructure and providing the services that are vital to the provincial economy," Highways and Transportation Minister Eldon Lautermilch said. "These professionals make a very substantial contribution to the quality of life we enjoy in Saskatchewan."

To celebrate the week, Minister Lautermilch and Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS) President Jon Gillies, will take part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony on March 2nd, 2006 at 9:30 a.m. to officially open APEGS's new location at Suite 104, 2255 13th Avenue in Regina.

"Engineers and geoscientists deserve to be recognized for the role they play in society," Gillies said. "This week helps us to give them the recognition they deserve all year long as they work to build the infrastructure of our towns and cities and the entire province."

APEGS is the agency that regulates the practice of engineering and geoscience in a manner that protects both the public and the environment. APEGS is the licensing body that fulfils this mandate by ensuring high standards of engineering and geoscience practice and education in Saskatchewan.
