News Release - June 21, 2005 YORKTON YOUTH RECOGNIZED FOR CREATIVE WORK
Two Yorkton youth from Sacred Heart High School have received awards in a unique Saskatchewan Centennial contest.
Information Services Corporation of Saskatchewan (ISC) has presented Jaclyn Zaba, with a $200 award for her essay St. Peter's Parish and the Founding of the Rastadt Colony, which describes the history of the Rastadt Colony and the Lourdes Grotto. As well ISC has presented Mandy Cmoc, with a $200 award for her essay This Land Called Home, which describes her love for Saskatchewan. As part of celebrating Saskatchewan's Centennial year, ISC is encouraging youth participation in Centennial events and is providing a scholarship to one Grade 12 student in each of 20 schools that volunteered to be part of the program. The initiative asked students to write an essay under the broad topic of the land in Saskatchewan. Essays can cover any number of subjects or aspects – open to the creativity of the author - ranging from a family homestead, an interesting landmark, a location where an historic event took place, or any other subject connected to the land in our province. The program fosters the creativity of students and builds an enhanced awareness of Saskatchewan. The contest targeted students in and around communities in which ISC's Customer Service Centres are located. Information Services Corporation of Saskatchewan is the provincial crown corporation responsible for the administration of provincial land titles, surveys, mapping and geographic information services as well as the personal property registry. Through its land titles registry, ISC has been involved in granting and titling land in this province since 1886. All winning essays in ISC's Grade 12 Centennial Essay contests will be posted to a special ISC Centennial website at www.centennial.isc.ca. -30- For More Information, Contact:
