GOVERNMENT RECEIVES FIFTH REPORT FROM FRANCOPHONE ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Provincial Secretary and Education Minister Donna Harpauer received a report today on French second language programs from the Advisory Committee on Francophone Affairs.

Five recommendations were made based on consultations with the Ministry of Education, Canadian Parents for French and representatives from the francophone community.

"I would like to thank the Advisory Committee on Francophone Affairs for preparing this report and taking into account the needs of those within our province who would like to pursue French as a second language," Harpauer said. "A French-speaking community that is inclusive and growing will only add to the strength, vitality and prosperity of this province."

The committee was created in 2009 to advise the Provincial Secretary through the review and analysis of French-language programs and policies and to guide the implementation of Saskatchewan's French-language Services Policy. Providing services in French allows the government to meet the needs of the people of Saskatchewan while attracting French newcomers to our province.

Earlier this month the committee released their final report on the issue of immigration and interprovincial migration within the province.
