HEALTH MINISTER DISCUSSES ISSUES OF COMMON INTEREST WITH FEDERAL COUNTERPART

Health Minister Don McMorris is kicking off his first meeting with Tony Clement, Federal Minister of Health Canada by talking about the new Saskatchewan government's vision for the health system with particular focus on health infrastructure renewal and health human resources.

"All provinces and territories are facing significant health infrastructure deficits and while we've put $100 million into this year's provincial budget, much more will be needed in coming years," McMorris said.

"Also, health human resource challenges are not unique to Saskatchewan. I think there may be an opportunity to engage in some collaborative intergovernmental work on the human resources file.

"Before health ministers from across the country next meet as a group, I wanted to get to know the federal minister a bit better by exploring, one-on-one, areas of common interest and concern. I'd like to be able to work together co-operatively to advance solutions that will benefit both Saskatchewan and the rest of the country."

The Minister's will meet on Monday, April 14 in Ottawa.
