SASKATCHEWAN HOUSING ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR SECOND ANNUAL RESEARCH GRANT

The Saskatchewan Housing Corporation is accepting applications from researchers interested in examining topics related to housing in Saskatchewan. There are three themes for the Saskatchewan Housing Research Program this year: improving housing conditions for Aboriginal households; revitalizing inner city communities; and strengthening northern communities. A total of $45,000 in grant funding is available.

"All of the themes flow out of our provincial housing strategy, Homefirst, which is aimed at bringing safe, affordable housing to thousands of low-income Saskatchewan people," Community Resources Minister Buckley Belanger said. "We introduced this research grant last year, and two proposals were selected to share the funds. We hope this program will continue to encourage valuable research that we can share and use to help to make housing more accessible and affordable for the people of this province."

The Saskatchewan Housing Research Program requires applicants to submit research proposals that are related to Saskatchewan-specific housing issues; that involve new research that clearly addresses a specific question or issue; and that use sound research methodology.

A housing research committee will review the applications and allocate the funding based on specific criteria. Committee members include experienced researchers and representatives from government and academic institutions.

The program is open to qualified individuals and groups, and the deadline for applications is September 29th. Funding is for housing research only, not housing projects. The amount requested must be commensurate with the scope of research being undertaken.

A program description, application guidelines and applications forms are available on the Saskatchewan Housing website at www.cr.gov.sk.ca/housing/index.html.
