GOVERNMENT PROCLAIMS SCHOOL BUS DRIVER APPRECIATION DAY

Saskatchewan's school bus drivers are tasked with one of the most important responsibilities in education - safely transporting our children to and from school. As part of the kick off to Saskatchewan's 2012 Education Week, Education Minister Russ Marchuk has proclaimed Monday, October 15 as School Bus Driver Appreciation Day.

"Proclaiming this day allows the Government of Saskatchewan to recognize and thank school bus drivers on behalf of students and their families for keeping the safety of our students as their number one priority," Marchuk said.

The Student Transportation Association of Saskatchewan (STAS) represents all individuals who transport students to school on behalf of school divisions across the province.

"Saskatchewan school bus drivers are a very dedicated group of people who often go above and beyond the call of duty to provide safe, timely transportation to our students," STAS President Neal Evans said. "On behalf of the Student Transportation Association of Saskatchewan, congratulations on a job well done."

Each year, Education Week is proclaimed to highlight the achievements of Saskatchewan students and commend the strengths of Saskatchewan teachers. This year's theme, Learning Success Today...Leading Success Tomorrow demonstrates that when we as leaders, parents, guardians, teachers and students collaborate on education, we support students to reach their highest potential.
