News Release - September 8, 2009 SASKATCHEWAN’S CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY MAKES GAINS IN JULYIn July 2009, building permits in Saskatchewan recorded the second-highest percentage increase in Canada (seasonally adjusted) according to a report released by Statistics Canada today. Seasonally adjusted, Saskatchewan's value of building permits jumped 57.5 per cent between June 2009 and July 2009 to $215.5 million. Prince Edward Island had the highest increase in the nation, up by 71.9 per cent over the same period. Nationally, building permits dropped by 11.4 per cent. "The jump in building permits between June and July of this year is a significant sign that our economy is on the upswing," Enterprise Saskatchewan Minister Ken Cheveldayoff said. "The year-to-year numbers are down, but considering that last year was a record year, and there has been such enormous change in the global picture, we are encouraged by the strong numbers in today's report." -30- For more information, contact:
