News Release - May 23, 2003 TOURISM MINISTERS TO MEET IN VANCOUVER
Industry and Resources Minister Eric Cline is meeting with his tourism counterparts from federal, provincial and territorial governments in Vancouver May 24th to discuss trends and issues in Canada's tourism industry.
Topics up for discussion include a national strategy for tourism development, impacts of airline restructuring, cross-border issues and tourism research. "Saskatchewan's incredible landscape, friendly people and amazing skies are part of the reason why our future is wide open," Cline said. "They are also why tourism is one of the fastest-growing sectors in the province. We hope that by working with our counterparts in other areas of the country, we can continue to nurture development of our industry and realize its full potential and continued success." The tourism industry generates $1.3 billion annually in Saskatchewan and wholly supports more than 22,000 jobs in the province. Allan Rock, Minister responsible for the Canadian Tourism Commission, will co-chair the meeting alongside Rick Thorpe, British Columbia's minister of tourism. -30- For More Information, Contact:
