News Release - September 11, 2003 2004 SASKATCHEWAN SUMMER GAMES AGREEMENT
The Saskatchewan Games is our province's premiere amateur multi-sport competition involving over 2,100 athletes, coaches, managers and mission staff along with the efforts of as many as 1,700 volunteers. Today marked the signing of the 2004 Saskatchewan Summer Games Agreement.
The Agreement provides a sound fiscal framework for the planning and implementation of the games. Culture, Youth and Recreation Minister Joanne Crofford and Saskatchewan Games Council Chair Brenda Dowling also presented a grant of $220,000 through Saskatchewan Lotteries to 2004 Weyburn Host Planning Committee Co-chairs Michael Pickering and Ray Hamm, and Weyburn Mayor Don Schlosser. The funds will be used for promoting, organizing, managing and conducting the games. "Today's signing is the first official step toward making the 2004 Saskatchewan Games the highlight of an unforgettable summer, and a great success," Crofford said. "Weyburn will showcase the tremendous talent of our athletes, and the dedication of our volunteers, in a vibrant community where new opportunities are created." "The 2004 Saskatchewan Summer Games will be one of the highlights of next year," Dowling said. "I encourage everyone to visit Weyburn during the games to experience first hand an exciting weeklong event." The Saskatchewan Games will be held August 8th - 14th, 2004.
