RECORD SETTING EXPORTS IN 2008

Saskatchewan Leads the Country - Five Times the National Average

Saskatchewan's total international exports in 2008 are already record-setting in the first 10 months with exports totalling $27 billion. The total amount of exports for 2007 was $20 billion.

"Exports for Saskatchewan have already exceeded last year's record year, with two months remaining on the calendar," Enterprise and Innovation Minister Lyle Stewart said. "These are exceptional numbers based on strong export figures in agriculture, oil and gas, mining, and of course manufacturing."

The report released today shows that in the month of October 2008, exports are up to $3.3 billion, a 91.6 per cent increase over October 2007, the highest percentage increase among the provinces, and almost five times the national average increase of 19.8 per cent.

This was the highest ever recorded export figure for the month of October, and second best when compared to the record set in the month of August of 2008, which came in slightly over the $3.3 billion mark.
