News Release - March 10, 2006 SASKATCHEWAN CELEBRATES FRANCOPHONES
Saskatchewan will celebrate its Francophone culture and the French language during the 8th annual Rendez-vous de la Francophonie which starts today and continues to March 26th.
"From artists to teachers, public servants to farmers, entrepreneurs to well known political figures, Francophones make an invaluable contribution to our province and our communities," Government Relations Minister Harry Van Mulligen said. Les Rendez-vous are held annually throughout Canada and is a time to promote French language and culture in the province and across Canada. The focal point of the two weeks celebration takes place on March 20th with the International Day of La Francophonie. "Saskatchewan's 20 thousand Francophones add to the cultural and economic strength of our society," Van Mulligen said. "It is important to highlight their many contributions not just during these two weeks, but everyday." This year's celebrations put a special emphasis on exchanges, dialogue and sharing between Canada's Francophones and Francophiles. For 16 days, a variety of activities will promote the vitality of the French language and the people who bring it to life. -30- For More Information, Contact:
