News Release - October 21, 2008 EIGHT CITIZENS TO RECEIVE SASKATCHEWAN’S HIGHEST HONOURLieutenant Governor Gordon Barnhart announced the names of eight recipients of the Saskatchewan Order of Merit. The Order of Merit is the province's highest honour. It recognizes individuals who have contributed significantly to the well-being of the province and its residents. "The eight individuals chosen to receive the Saskatchewan Order of Merit this year are most worthy of this prestigious honour," Barnhart said. "Each recipient exemplifies excellence and generosity and has made enormous contributions to our province." The 2008 recipients are: • Mr. Edward D. Bayda, Q.C., LL.D., retired Chief Justice of Saskatchewan, Regina; Including the eight new members, there have been 156 appointments to the Order of Merit since its inception in 1985. The 2008 recipients will be invested into the Saskatchewan Order of Merit in a ceremony to take place on November 19 in Regina.
