NEW VEHICLES STILL SELLING IN SASKATCHEWAN

Statistics Canada released the November figures for new motor vehicle sales today which show Saskatchewan had the second highest percentage increase among the provinces over last year on a seasonally unadjusted basis.

In November 2008, there were 3,783 new vehicles purchased in the province, up from 3,505 last November and an increase of 7.9 per cent (seasonally unadjusted). Prince Edward Island recorded the highest increase at 21.5 per cent and was the only other province to report an increase. Nationally, new vehicle sales dropped by 10.3 per cent.

"Saskatchewan's economy is not unaffected by the current economic downturn on a national and global basis," Advanced Education and Labour Minister Rob Norris said on behalf of Enterprise and Innovation Minister Lyle Stewart. "However, numbers like these show that Saskatchewan is a good place to weather the storm. This shows we have a higher level of comfort that allows consumers to still afford purchases like new vehicles."
