Information Services Corporation (ISC) is honouring a record 661 families across Saskatchewan with 2009 ISC Century Family Farm Awards. Farming families from the Saskatoon area received their award at a June 23 presentation, in recognition of farming their land for 100 years or more.

"The family farm has always been an integral part of Saskatchewan's economy and represents the traditions and strong work ethic that have shaped our province," Minister responsible for Information Services Corporation June Draude said. "Reaching the century milestone of farming the same land is an incredible achievement. I congratulate all recipients and celebrate their many accomplishments."

This year marks a dramatic increase in award recipients since ISC began managing the program in 2007 - which saw 325 recipients honoured in 2007 and 367 in 2008. In total, 3,355 families have received a Century Family Farm Award since 1981.

"The response to the ISC Century Family Farm Award program in 2009 is a great indication that the awards have become a source of pride in Saskatchewan's farming community," ISC President and CEO Jeff Stusek said. "It's a privilege for ISC to be involved in honouring these prairie farm families for following in their ancestors' footsteps."

The ISC Century Family Farm Awards are delivered on an annual basis. Recipients must apply for the awards by March 15 and meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Members of the same family have farmed or ranched the land continuously for 100 years or more; and
  • The family must live in Saskatchewan and continue to operate the farm or ranch.

All recipients receive a colour copy of their family's original land grant or title, as well as ISC Century Family Farm Award certificates and a choice of award: an indoor wall plaque or a gate sign. All bear the ISC Century Family Farm Award logo, the family farm name and its year of establishment.

Four celebratory events are being held throughout June in Swift Current, Regina, Saskatoon and Yorkton. For a complete list of the 2009 recipients, please see the attached backgrounder, or visit
