$500,000 IN ADDITIONAL FUNDING FOR SOURCE WATER PROTECTION

The Government of Saskatchewan is increasing its funding commitment to several non-profit groups that are helping protect the province's water resources.

"Our government has made it a priority to ensure that Saskatchewan's people have access to clean, safe water," Minister responsible for the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority Nancy Heppner said. "We're pleased to be able to increase the operating grants that we provide to these groups in support of their very important work."

With the additional funding, the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority will now make a total of $820,000 in funding grants available to non-profit groups engaged in source water protection initiatives.

The groups receiving funding are responsible for the implementation of locally-developed source water protection plans. The Saskatchewan Watershed Authority facilitates the development of watershed-based source water protection plans by bringing together local leaders, who work in partnership to create and implement an action plan for protecting their water. To date, seven plans have been completed within the province, with four more currently underway.

The Saskatchewan Watershed Authority manages the province's water resources to support our growing economy, in balance with social and environmental needs.
