AGRICULTURE DEVELOPMENT FUND APPROVES 22 PROJECTS

Twenty-two agriculture research and development projects in Saskatchewan have received support of $3.2 million from the Agriculture Development Fund (ADF).

Agriculture and Food Minister Mark Wartman said the research projects will assist with the progress and diversification of many areas of Saskatchewan's agricultural industry.

"Investment in these projects today means Saskatchewan will reap benefits tomorrow," Wartman said. "These investments will lead to innovation and science based opportunities in value-added processing, livestock development and improving the value of our crops. Saskatchewan's agricultural scientists are using their creativity and knowledge to ensure Saskatchewan remains a leader in world agriculture."

This round of ADF funding helps research projects undertaken by the University of Saskatchewan; the Prairie Swine Centre of Saskatoon; the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization or VIDO of Saskatoon; the Prairie Agricultural Machinery Institute or PAMI, and the Western Beef Development Centre, both at Humboldt; Biolin Research Inc. of Saskatoon; and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.

The ADF Advisory Committee selected the 22 projects submitted in the Nov. 15th round of applications.

Projects include the use of canola, pea and flax fractions in aquafeeds; the development of a double low feed barley for ruminants and the development of bio-products from yellow mustard seed proteins.
