SEVEN VOLUNTEERS TO BE HONOURED

Today Lieutenant Governor Lynda Haverstock announced the names of seven citizens who will receive the 2002 Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal. The Medal recognizes outstanding volunteer service or exceptional community involvement.

The recipients are:
* B. Norman Beach of Swift Current, who has volunteered in numerous
community and church activities;
* Dave Cameron of Lumsden, a long time participant in community,
business and recreational activities as well as one of the original
members of the Lumsden Duck Derby;
* Kelly Chase of Porcupine Plain, who was recognized for his charity work
by the National Hockey League in 1998 with the King Clancy Award;
* Louise Fisher of Tisdale, a long-time educator, founder and coordinator
of Tisdale's Author's Event held during the National Book Week Festival;
* Jackie Groat of Saskatoon, founder and full-time volunteer of the
"Voyageur Club of Saskatoon Inc." establishing programs and activities
for the continued independence of disadvantaged people;
* Renu Kapoor of Regina, a social worker, who has helped Regina
fundraise for numerous local and international charities; and
* Marie Léa Mathers-Ross of Prince Albert, who is well known for her
voluntarism with the Boy Scouts of Canada.

The Lieutenant Governor will present the medals during a ceremony at the Legislature in April.

Including this year's recipients, 65 Saskatchewan citizens have been awarded the Volunteer Medal since its inception in 1995.
