PREMIER RECOGNIZES CITIZENS FOR CHARITABLE EFFORTS LINKED TO GREY CUP

Premier Brad Wall acknowledged two men for their outstanding Saskatchewan spirit today in the Legislative Assembly. The generosity of Trevor Lowey and Kelly Schermann paved the way for Chris Knox and ten other young men and women battling cancer to witness the Saskatchewan Roughriders win the 2007 Grey Cup in Toronto.

"The story of these two men is very much a reflection of our entire province," Wall said. "Kelly and Trevor showed true Saskatchewan compassion and care. They made life better for these young people and their families."

It began when the two strangers heard about Chris Knox, a young man that will forever be remembered in the hearts of Saskatchewan people. Schermann, a teacher from Strasbourg and Lowey, a paramedic from Kelvington, joined forces to give Knox a chance to see his team play in the 2007 Grey Cup.

Shortly after being diagnosed with terminal cancer, Chris expressed a desire to attend the Riders' Labour Day Classic. When the Roughriders won the Western Final, a small group of people began working to ensure Chris saw his team play in the Grey Cup. Within a few hours, more than $12,000 dollars was raised through private and corporate donations. Ten other young men and women joined Chris at the game.

Sadly, Chris lost his battle with cancer late last week.
