GOVERNMENT RELEASES POLLING RESULTS

Eighty per cent of Saskatchewan people believe there is economic opportunity in and growth through investment in new environmentally efficient technology, according to polling released today by the Government of Saskatchewan.

"The public understands that a green and prosperous economy is built on a healthy environment and sustainable growth," Environment Minister David Forbes said. "This research will help inform our Green Strategy, which we will be taking to the public for consultation this fall."

Other findings of the poll showed overwhelming support for buying goods that are produced in a more environmentally friendly manner (92.8 per cent) and that 77.1 per cent of the public agree that Saskatchewan has safe drinking water.

A poll conducted for the department of Learning indicated that the majority (69 per cent) viewed the library system as good to excellent. More respondents perceive high school students as being prepared for attending post-secondary institutions (five per cent increase to 69 per cent) and for entering the workforce (10 per cent increase to 57 per cent).

Two smaller polls were released, on public awareness on fires and safe fire handling, and on the effect of an ad campaign by Industry and Resources on Labour Sponsored Venture Capital Funds. All four polls are available online at www.executive.gov.sk.ca.

No omnibus polling was conducted during January through March of 2005. The next quarterly polling report will be released in July 2005, covering the period April through May 2005.
