News Release - May 21, 1999 CASINO FUNDS SUPPORT PROGRAMMING FOR YOUTH
Last Mountain Touchwood MLA Dale Flavel announced, on behalf of
Municipal Affairs, Culture and Housing Minister Carol Teichrob, that community groups in Wynyard, Southey, Strasbourg, Lestock, Raymore and surrounding communities received $12,550 from casino profits through the Associated Entities Fund. "The province established the Associated Entities Fund to distribute a portion of casino profits for the benefit of Saskatchewan people," Flavel said. "Since the beginning of 1997 more than $4.5 million in casino profits have been distributed throughout Saskatchewan for programs that support children, youth and families." The Town of Wynyard Recreation Department received $1,000 toward the Wynyard Summer Active Youth Program. This program is designed for youth aged eight - 14, including those with disabilities, to participate in summer activities which eliminate social, racial and economic barriers. Zone 5 Sports Council Inc. and the Blackstrap Regional Recreational Association received $2,100 toward a Summer Fun Recreation Sports Camp, allowing children and youth with an opportunity to participate in a summer sport which they would otherwise not have access to. The Southey Health Action Centre and the Southey Recreation Association received $950 Toward a Summer Play Program, designed to build confidence and independence in children aged four - 12. The Strasbourg Recreation Board and the William Derby School received $1,500 toward their Summer Youth B-Active Program, designed to give children of all ages an opportunity to participate in summer activities. The Lestock Interagency Kids Effort and the Family Resource Centre received $3,500 to provide opportunities in sports, culture and recreation activities. Raymore Recreation Board and the Town of Raymore received $3,500 toward the Day Care Summer Program. This is designed to provide educational, art and physical activities to children ages four - ten in the communities of Raymore, Semans, Quinton, Punnichy, Kawacatoose and Gordons Reserve.
