News Release - March 1, 2004 2004 CROP INSURANCE PROGRAM DEADLINE MARCH 31ST
Producers are encouraged to review the details of the 2004 Crop Insurance Program, including enhancements to the Forage Rainfall Insurance and Annual Crop Weather Based Insurance Programs, and to apply by March 31st.
"With payouts of more than $1.7 billion over the past three years, Crop Insurance has proven itself as an important program to address production shortfalls on Saskatchewan farms," Agriculture, Food and Rural Revitalization Minister Mark Wartman said. "We continue to expand forage programs, support the diversification of Saskatchewan's innovative producers and improve the effectiveness of our programs to better assist producers in managing their risk." Crop Insurance customers can expect their personal endorsement packages in the mail starting March 8th. Included is information on the 2004 multi-peril, forage and new crops programs, as well as details on rates and coverages for the upcoming crop year. Crop Insurance and the new Canadian Agriculture Income Stabilization (CAIS) program are designed to work together to protect farmers against production shortfalls and margin declines. The deadline to apply for, make changes to or cancel coverage is March 31st, 2004.
