News Release - October 31, 2005 CROP REPORT FOR THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 30TH, 2005
Many areas of the province have completed or almost completed the 2005 harvest, with 98 per cent of the crop complete, up from 94 per cent last week, and ahead of the five year average of 92 per cent, according to Saskatchewan Agriculture and Food's weekly crop report.
The northeast remains least advanced with 89 per cent combined. Wet fields continue to hamper harvest operations. Most of the grain taken off this past week came off with high moisture content and will need to be dried. Overall, the crop will be below average in quality. Migrating waterfowl and wild game caused the majority of the crop damage during the past week. Weathering also damaged crops. Farmers continued with fall work – baling, hauling bales, harrowing, fertilizer application, etc. This report is the last weekly crop report for the 2005 season. The final crop report will include a summary of the year, a production table, a grades table, and an estimate of fall seeded crops. It will be released on November 16th, 2005. -30- For More Information, Contact:
