CROP REPORT FOR THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 23RD, 2005

Harvest progress is now at 94 per cent complete, up from 90 per cent last week, and ahead of the five-year average of 92 per cent, according to Saskatchewan Agriculture and Food's weekly crop report.

Southern regions are pretty much complete, while the northeast remains least advanced with 78 per cent combined. West-central regions made the most progress, moving from 84 per cent to 94 per cent complete. East-Central regions are at 96 per cent complete, and northwest regions are at 84 per cent. Production is expected to be above average, while quality is expected to be below average.

Waterfowl, wild game and weathering caused the majority of the crop damage during the past week. Farmers need a good stretch of average to above-average temperatures and dry weather to complete this year's harvest.

Fall work continued this past week, with baling, bale hauling, rock picking, fertilizer and chemical application, harrowing and cattle work all taking place.
