News Release - March 17, 2011 MINISTER SAYS HUMBOLDT-AREA COLLEGES NOT READY FOR MERGERLatest Consultations Will Prompt Further Review of College Leadership and Governance Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration Minister Rob Norris says an independent study concludes Carlton Trail Regional College (CTRC) and St. Peter's College are not ready for a merger. The decision is based on a report prepared by Meyers Norris Penny (MNP). That report states some key elements to support the merger are currently missing. These include:
• A comprehensive business case and rationale; "While many people at the public consultations supported the concept of a merger, there were serious concerns and questions about the proposal," Norris said. "The consultant's report is clear that the proposal is not in the public interest." Some of the information collected during MNP's consultations prompted concerns regarding the governance and leadership of these two colleges. These concerns have been highlighted in a separate report and will be the subject of further review by MNP and the ministry. "I want to reassure the students of both schools and the taxpayers of Saskatchewan that we take these matters very seriously," Norris said. The minister requested the boards of both schools immediately place the current CEO on administrative leave pending the outcome of the current review. -30- For more information, contact:
