News Release - December 11, 2008 NEW SASKATCHEWAN HUMAN RIGHTS CHIEF COMMISSIONER APPOINTEDJudge David Arnot of Saskatoon has been appointed as the new Chief Commissioner of the Human Rights Commission effective January 15, 2009. Judge Arnot was appointed a Saskatchewan Provincial Court judge in 1981 and has additional service in the areas of Aboriginal justice, judicial independence and judicial education. He is well known as the past Federal Treaty Commissioner for Saskatchewan. "We are pleased to have someone of Judge Arnot's qualifications and background heading up the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission," Justice Minister Don Morgan said. "He is committed to advancing the principles of equality and diversity, and he will provide strong leadership in promoting human rights within our Province." The Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission promotes and protects the individual dignity, fundamental freedoms and equal rights of Saskatchewan residents.
