GOVERNMENT INVESTS IN HELPING YOUTH AT RISK JOIN THE LABOUR MARKET

The Government of Saskatchewan is investing $263,000 in support of Youth Employment and Education Support Services, a project that helps to bring youth into educational opportunities that lead to jobs. The announcement was made at a joint provincial-federal funding celebration in Prince Albert at the Métis Women's Association today.

"I am pleased to be working with the federal government and our private business partners in programs that assist youth at risk in improving their lives," Advanced Education, Employment and Labour Minister Rob Norris said. "By providing them with employability training, life skills and job coaching as well as work experience, we are helping them to make healthy choices that lead to life-long attachment to the work force."

The program was first developed to test new approaches to help youth make the transition from correctional facilities to independence through employment. It has evolved to include other youth, who have not been in correctional facilities.

The $263,000 Saskatchewan Government funding for the program is provided by the Ministry of Advanced Education Employment and Labour and the Ministry of Correction Public Safety and Policing. The program is administered by the Prince Albert Métis Women's Association.
