CELEBRATING SASKATCHEWAN PEOPLE

Lieutenant Governor Lynda Haverstock presented the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal for the first time to recipients at the Saskatchewan Legislative Building in Regina today.

The commemorative medal recognizes and honours the important role individuals have played in the development of communities in the province.

"The Saskatchewan Centennial Medal celebrates 100 years of hope, courage, faith, and generosity. These characteristics define our citizens, past and present," the Lieutenant Governor said.

Recipients are selected based on the recommendation of provincial non-governmental organizations and Members of the Legislative Assembly. Community leaders, MLAs, MPs and judges will also receive the medal.

"The medal will acknowledge the women and men who give selflessly of their time and energy to support their communities every day," Premier Lorne Calvert said. "By working together, Saskatchewan people have done a truly remarkable job of creating a province of which we can all be proud."

Approximately 3,900 Saskatchewan Centennial Medals will be provided to individuals at presentations held throughout the province this year.
