2005 SEASON OFFICIALLY OPENS FOR SASKATCHEWAN'S PROVINCIAL PARKS

Saskatchewan's provincial parks are geared up for Centennial celebrations and will officially open services for the summer season on the May long weekend, May 21st to 23rd. Saskatchewan's provincial parks are open year round, however, most summer vacation services begin the Victoria Day long weekend.

"We are pleased and proud to be part of this province's centennial celebrations, and we're well on our way to having a wonderful centennial parks season," Environment Minister David Forbes said. "I can think of no better way to celebrate the centennial than to showcase our parks."

Visitors are encouraged to pick up a copy of the 2005 Provincial Parks Guide & Passport and take part in the Centennial Park Contest. There are six different categories park visitors can choose to enter for a chance to win cash and prizes worth up to $13,000.

Visitors attending an officially registered Saskatchewan Centennial 2005 "Homecoming Celebration" are eligible for a free three-day park entry to any Saskatchewan provincial park.

Visitors can also take advantage of the free park entry during the Labour Day long weekend - a great opportunity to visit a provincial park.

The province has 34 provincial parks that offer a unique taste of Saskatchewan. Each park showcases specific natural or historic features and offers a range of visitor services and recreational and educational opportunities. Each year, more than two million visitors enjoy Saskatchewan's provincial parks. In addition, Saskatchewan has 130 recreation sites located throughout the province which provide a wide range of recreation opportunities ranging from boat launches to a full range of services like camping, beach and day use areas.

Potable water systems are just starting up for the season, as frost conditions allow. To find out the status of the water system in any of Saskatchewan's parks, call the park directly or check the Parks website at www.saskparks.net.
