TREATED EFFLUENT RELEASED FROM COLD LAKE, ALBERTA INTO BEAVER RIVER

Saskatchewan Environment has received information on an accidental release of a large amount of treated effluent from a municipal facility in Cold Lake, Alberta into the Beaver River that runs into Saskatchewan south of the communities of Pierceland, Dorintosh and north of Meadow Lake.

Potential environmental or health impacts appear minimal at this time. However, Saskatchewan Environment is advising recreational users that they may want to exercise caution in using the Beaver River for swimming or fishing until further notice.

Saskatchewan Environment will continue to monitor the situation and test for water quality. Information on impacts will be provided once testing is completed.
