RUNOFF INFORMATION LINE NOW AVAILABLE

Saskatchewan residents can now access current runoff information for every region of the province through a toll-free telephone number.

"This service gives Saskatchewan people the most up-to-date information about the spring runoff situation in their area, as well as a summary of runoff conditions for the entire province," Minister responsible for the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority Nancy Heppner said. "This information is particularly important in areas where there is potential for above normal runoff."

The number for the information line, known as Runoff Roundup, is 1-866-501-0888. The line will be updated every Tuesday, or more often as required due to changing conditions, until the majority of the snowpack in each region has thawed.

Callers will be asked to select which region they wish to hear the runoff forecast for or can choose to hear an overview for the entire province. Each update will consist of a short pre-recorded message.

The province is divided into five regions: North Battleford, Nipawin, Swift Current, Weyburn and Yorkton. A map showing the boundaries for each region is available at www.swa.ca.

In addition to the Runoff Roundup information line, the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority issues a monthly Provincial Streamflow Forecast which describes the general water supply conditions in the province and provides forecasts of expected flow conditions and lake levels. The Provincial Streamflow Forecast will be updated in April, or earlier as conditions change.

Transcripts of the Runoff Roundup updates will be available on the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority's website at www.swa.ca.
