News Release - September 18, 2003 SASKATCHEWAN WATERSHED AUTHORITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE APPOINTED
Stakeholder groups and members of the general public will be providing advice to the government on how to manage the province's water resources. Minister Responsible for the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority Buckley Belanger today announced the appointment of an Advisory Committee to the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority.
The Advisory Committee will identify and evaluate a broad range of water issues, challenges and opportunities to provide the Authority's Board of Directors with information and advice. Representatives from stakeholder and special interest groups selected for the Advisory Committee bring wide-ranging expertise on source water issues. "Water management is a major priority for the government. The Advisory Committee will help us build and enhance partnership approaches to deal with our most precious physical resource," Belanger said. "It will serve as an ongoing forum to examine water priorities and assist the Authority to manage and protect the province's watersheds, ensuring safe, high quality water for the people of Saskatchewan." The Saskatchewan Watershed Authority was formed in October 2002 as part of the government's Long Term Safe Drinking Water Strategy, to bring resource management and stewardship functions together to protect source water quality. -30- For More Information, Contact:
