SASKATCHEWAN CELEBRATES EDUCATION WEEK

Education Minister Ken Krawetz will proclaim October 26 to November 1 as Education Week 2008 in Saskatchewan. Education Week provides an opportunity to celebrate the achievement of schools and their students.

This year's Education Week theme, Reading More into Education, highlights the many aspects of education undertaken in Saskatchewan schools. The theme also emphasizes fundamental skills, such as reading, that are essential for student achievement and future success.

"The Government of Saskatchewan believes that the learning success and achievement of our young people is vital for securing the future of our province," Krawetz said. "Education plays an important role in the growth and success of Saskatchewan and its citizens. From innovative programming and extra-curricular activities, to the inclusion of school-linked services, today's education sector is more diverse than ever before."

Education Week is celebrated through various events and public activities in schools throughout Saskatchewan, demonstrating the quality of our public education system.

The co-ordinating committee for Education Week is comprised of partners from the Saskatchewan Ministry of Education, the Saskatchewan School Boards Association (SSBA), the Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation (STF), League of Educational Administrators, Directors and Superintendents (LEADS), Saskatchewan Association of School Councils (SASC), Conseil des écoles fransaskoises, Regina Catholic Schools and the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations (FSIN).
