News Release - March 1, 2010 SASKATCHEWAN STUDENTS WILL KNOW THE SCOREA new interactive program is educating post-secondary students across the province about preventing problem gambling. The Responsible Gambling Council today launched its Know the Score 2 (kts2) program at the University of Regina. The program will also make stops at the University of Saskatchewan as well as at SIAST campuses in Prince Albert, Moose Jaw, Saskatoon and Regina. The Saskatchewan kts2 tour is being funded by the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA). "This campaign will get young people talking and raise their overall awareness about problem gambling issues," Regina Qu'Appelle Valley MLA Laura Ross said on behalf of Minister responsible for the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority Christine Tell. "Our government is committed to ensuring gambling is conducted in a fair and responsible manner. Providing awareness and education programming is one way we achieve this." The program interacts with students with an on-campus staffed display as well as an interactive website that allows students to test their knowledge about gambling. The program explores the real chances of winning and losing, highlights signs of problem gambling and suggests ways to keep gambling safer. "It's critical that young adults who are at risk of developing gambling problems have the knowledge and support to make informed decisions," Responsible Gambling Council CEO Jon Kelly said. "With this age group, connectivity is the thing and kts2 communicates in multiple, youth-friendly ways. We are pleased that SLGA is ensuring this message is shared with students in Saskatchewan." The Responsible Gambling Council (RGC) is an independent, non-profit organization committed to problem gambling prevention. RGC designs and delivers highly effective awareness programs, like kts2.
