RESPONSE TO CENTENNIAL WEB PHOTO COMPETITION OUTSTANDING

Saskatchewan residents have once again demonstrated their centennial spirit in a big way, submitting more than 1,700 photos to the Saskatchewan Government Centennial Web Photo Competition.

The competition began July 15th, 2005, with submissions received from more than a hundred communities located in every region of the province, from Southend to Climax to Carnduff. Entries to the competition have now closed and the decision is in the hands of a panel of professional judges, who will be judging entries based on quality and content.

Sponsored by the Information Technology Office and Microsoft Canada, the photos will be used to create a lasting online pictorial of the province's beauty and diversity. Entries included many pictures of Saskatchewan's natural flora and fauna, along with city/townscape, recreation and culture-oriented themes.

The grand prize winner will receive a media personal computer package. The second place finisher wins a photo-quality printer, third place wins a digital camera, and seven honourable mentions will each receive a photo software package. All winning entries will also receive official Saskatchewan Centennial merchandise and be placed on temporary display at the Saskatchewan Legislative Building.

In addition to awarding prizes for the top 10 entries, all acceptable photos will become part of the Saskatchewan Government central Web portal. They will be included in the online Saskatchewan Photo Album and the picture rotation on the main page of the site where possible, with full accreditation to the photographer.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the competition! The top 10 winning entries will be announced on October 31st, 2005.
