News Release - October 26, 2010 MEMBERS OF THE DIPLOMATIC AND CONSULAR CORPS TO ATTEND OPENING OF LEGISLATUREProvincial Secretary Donna Harpauer announced today that a delegation of Diplomatic and Consular Corps representatives from across Canada will be in Regina on October 27, to attend the opening of the Fourth Session of the Twenty-Sixth Legislature and reading of the Throne Speech. "This is the second year of the outreach program and already we see the benefits of engaging the Diplomatic and Consular Corps," Harpauer said. "In 2009-10 international engagement increased by an impressive 89 per cent over the previous fiscal year. This means greater opportunity for trade and partnerships with nations around the world and an increased presence for Saskatchewan on the international stage." The members of the delegation will meet with representatives from Saskatchewan Trade and Export Partnership (STEP), Enterprise Saskatchewan and the Ministry of Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration, before attending the opening of the Saskatchewan Legislature. The members of the Diplomatic and Consular Corps will also attend a reception hosted by Lieutenant Governor Dr. Gordon Barnhart. On October 28, the delegation will meet with representatives from Regina's Innovation Park at the University of Regina before touring the Weyburn-Midale Oil Field. The Diplomatic and Consular Corps delegation is made of diplomats representing countries from around the world, including Bangladesh, Brazil, France, Germany, Ghana, Indonesia, South Korea, Mexico, Netherlands and Switzerland. Honorary Consuls from Austria, Germany, Japan, Morocco, Netherlands and Norway, will also be participating in the program. The Office of the Provincial Secretary works with government, organizations, and communities, to provide opportunities to celebrate and promote the diversity, character and achievements of our province and to engage diplomats and Consular Corps who visit Saskatchewan as part of government's strategy to strengthen and build regional, national and international relationships.
