News Release - March 21, 2007 JOB SECURITY FOR RESERVISTS INTRODUCEDSaskatchewan men and women who volunteer for the Canadian Forces Reserves will soon be guaranteed job protection if they leave their employment to fulfil a volunteer commitment with the Canadian Forces. “Saskatchewan is home to approximately 900 reservists whose willingness to provide this important volunteer service deserves our support,” Labour Minister David Forbes said. “As a result of this amendment, these men and women will be able to fulfil their duty, confident of the fact that when they return home their jobs will be waiting for them.” Saskatchewan is among the first jurisdictions to introduce job protection for reservists. The government will also consult on additional protections for student reservists. This change applies to all provincially regulated employers. Employers with questions about the amendments should contact the Department of Labour’s Labour Standards call centre at 1-800-667-1783. -30- For more information, contact: Nadine Sisk |
